Ella Smits
Dietician
Ella, a registered dietitian with a BSc in Human Nutrition and Sport and Exercise Science from Massey University, expanded her expertise with a Postgraduate Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics from Curtin University of Technology in Perth. Her diverse career began as a clinical dietitian at Albany Health Campus in Western Australia, followed by a pivotal role as the sole dietitian across two private hospitals and numerous aged care facilities in Melbourne.
In Melbourne, Ella gained extensive experience in surgical, gastroenterology, diabetes, oncology, critical care, and general medicine. Recently, she held a notable position as an outpatient clinical lead dietitian, specialising in oncology and bariatrics, at Tauranga Hospital in the Bay of Plenty. Ella is dedicated to promoting positive behaviour change in bariatrics, employing an evidence-based and person-centered approach.

Katie Garmonsway
Bariatric Nurse Specialist
Katie, a dedicated registered nurse since 2011, possesses a wealth of experience across various healthcare domains. Katie began her career in surgical ward nursing, where she honed foundational skills before progressing to senior positions in cancer care, research, and bariatrics, showcasing her versatility and commitment to diverse aspects of patient care. Holding a postgraduate diploma, Katie exemplifies a commitment to professional development and excellence in patient care. Her passion for advancing healthcare is not only evident in her professional achievements but also in the compassionate care she provides to her patients.

Catherine Kissel
Bariatric Psychologist
Catherine, a registered psychologist, specialises in addictive behaviours and mental health, particularly in the context of bariatric surgery. With a recent leadership role at Waitemata DHB mental health and addictions services, Catherine brings a wealth of experience. She has lectured at AUT and the University of Auckland, also serving as an external examiner. Her commitment to staying current is evident through regular conference attendance and international connections in the field.
Catherine provides comprehensive support for bariatric surgical patients, guiding them from the decision-making phase through post-surgery challenges and long-term maintenance. Her goal is to assist individuals in achieving lasting weight loss and navigating the transition to a healthier future.
